Default Pistorius Repair

I have an older EMN Pistorius saw, about 15 years old. I came in this morning and started the machine and the left hand blade turns but never picks up full speed, then turns itself off. I would assume it is the motor? Does anybody know of somebody that services these machines in the Philadelphia area?

#1 for looking at any power equipment......
UNPLUG THE MACHINE

does the belt look ok?
does the shaft of the motor rotate easily?
have you greased the bearings on the motor over those 15 years?

I ALWAYS throw the power breaker when I'm working om the machine. I had Ultramiter come out last year for service and everything looked good. I do keep it maintained but never had a list of things to to each month. I will go look at the belt right now. Thank for your help.

It could also be the capacitor. My Mn-200 has 2 of them on either side of each motor. When mine went, the motor would turn on but never reach any speed. I believe there is a starting and running capacitor.

Give Pistorius Machine a call. Ask for either William or Bob Kellerman.

OK the belts look good and every thing is turning, but very slowly. I put my hand on top of the motor and it feels alot warmer than the other one. I have a call into Ultramiter and I just got of the phone with Pistorius for some spot checking, gotta love William. He also said it could be the capacitor so I will check that now. Mark where did you get a new one and who did you call to put it in?

First, a 15 year old Pistorius EMN is not old -- if you take care of it, then it's just getting broken in at that age.

UltraMitre's service rep comes through Ohio a couple of times a year, and he refurbished my 30 year old EMN some years ago. Then Jeff Rodier bought it and he's using it a lot more than I did.

UltraMitre could provide whatever parts you need, and I suggest supporting our industry-specific suppliers whenever possible. However, you probably don't want to pay the airfare for a special service call, and you may not be able to wait for the service rep's next scheduled trip to your area. If you can't manage the installation yourself, do you know of a nearby machine shop or motor repair shop with knowledgeable service reps?

Surely, a motor repair shop could either repair your motor, or install a new motor for you. These are industrial supply companies selling motors and drive components, so if you need new belts, bearings, or other mechanical parts, they could probably supply them.

Maybe you could buy parts from UltraMitre and have a local motor/mechanical parts service shop install them for you, but the local company might prefer to sell you their parts, instead.

An EMN motor is easy to replace (an MN is much harder); remove the motor and take it to a repair shop (look up Electric Motor Repair). It's probably a
Baldor motor and the replacement parts are not specific to it, just off the shelf stuff. Have 'em do a complete rebuild while you're at it. Rewind, new bearings. The rebuilt motor will be better than the original Baldor. You'd have yo be nuts to order capacitors, bearings from a framing industry supplier; there are plenty of industries that use Baldor motors and the motors can be rebuilt at any repair ship. In fact, there is nothing, except some castinga, on a Pistorius say that isn't standard, off the shelf that any 15 year old industrial arts student couldn't replace. I've done it which puts the job into the capacities of a complete clutz. Here in Wilmington, we can get a motor rebuilt in a day. Oh, when you, or someone else, removes the motor, carefully note how the wiring is configured (ie, what color goes to what point. A piece of cake

Carla, the part isn't expensive (relatively speaking) and you can install it yourself. I think it's just 2 wires and a ground.

Are there 2 bump outs on your motors? They would have 4 small hex head screws holding them down. They are easily removed and then the capacitor can be disconnected and the new one can be reinstalled in it's place. You can remove one wire at a time and connect it to the new unit so you are sure you are wiring it correctly.

I got my new capacitor directly from Pistorius, but they are a 5 minute drive from me.

OK The capacitor was leaking.

I removed the housing and got the information on the capacitor and found one near by.

I put the new one on and now it blew!

I called William again and he says it must be something wrong with the motor. He is checking his stock and will call me back.

Could I have mis wired it? The guys at the electric supply place told me not really, put one on one side and the other one on the other side. I guess I will start calling around looking for a place to rebuild the motor.

Oh ya now I need to find another capacitor.

All you help is SO GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
